The French Embassy and the French Institute (Institut français de Singapour) partnered the Regional Language Centre (RELC) to organise a week long seminar in French from 3 to 7 December 2012 for French-speaking diplomats from ASEAN. Initiated by the ASEAN Foundation, the objective was to raise the visibility of the French language and to promote French values amongst Asian diplomatic circles.
13 participants from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam attended the seminar, which took place at the RELC in Singapore.
This seminar, the 10th, held annually since its inception in 2003, revolved around the theme of "ASEAN’s external relations : challenges of a security policy".
Professionals from France from both the private and government sectors in the areas of economy, defence, technology, geo-politics, public health and agriculture shared their expertise and experience with the diplomats. 2 trainers, a professor in Communication and a French language teacher, were also on hand to conduct the programme.
Throughout this seminar, participants were able to have lively and informative exchanges amongst themselves and with the experts. The seminar also presented a unique opportunity to expand the network of french-speaking diplomats from ASEAN.
