8th World Day Against The Death Penalty

The 10th October 2010 is the 8th World Day Against the Death Penalty. It is also the 3rd European day against the death penalty.

France as the European Union as a whole, strongly opposes the use of the death penalty in all circumstances and advocates its universal abolition.

France and the EU encourage countries that still have the death penalty, in practice or in positive law, to abolish it, or, failing this, to reduce the application thereof, respect minimum standards or moratoriums on executions, as a first step towards abolishing the death penalty.
