Alien Business Card

Alien business card
(Carte de commerçant étranger)
Valid for France only
You must apply at the Consulate of France in person.

No commercial business can be operated in France by a foreigner unless he/she holds a ‘Carte de Commerçant Etranger’ whether he/she is residing in France or not.

If you do not intend to live in France and you do not need a visa to enter France (see Do I need a Visa?) you must apply for the Alien Business Card at the Prefecture that has jurisdiction over the town/city where your business will be.

If you do not intend to live in France but you require a visa to visit France, follow instructions for Schengen Visa each time you need to travel to France.

If you wish to reside in France, you must apply for a Long Stay Visitor Visa at the same time as applying for the Alien Business Card at the Consulate.

When both Alien Business Card and Long Stay Visa have been approved by the French Authorities, an Alien Business Card Visa is issued by the Consulate. Upon arrival in France, you must obtain your Residency Card and Alien Business Card at the Prefecture that has jurisdiction over the town/city where your business will be.

Nationals of all European Community countries, Andorra, Monacco, Algeria or foreigners already holding a Resident Card for France are exempted from this procedure.

For further information on how to apply, please send an email to consulat@ambafrance-sg.org.
