Avignon’s Alain Timar directs "Exit the king" with Lasalle’s students
Director and Théâtre d’Avignon’s founder Alain Timar is working with BA students from Lasalle College of the Arts’ theatre to stage a new version of "Exit The King", the satirical play written by Eugene Iosnesco. The one-month residency, co-organised by Lasalle College of the Arts and Institut français of Singapore, will conclude on 28 January with the staging of the work.
"We are delighted to begin our new collaboration with the Institut Français of Singapore with the introduction of one of France’s most illustrious and celebrated directors, Alain Timar. Alain is a world-renowned director, designer, and Executive Director of Théâtre des Halles in Avignon, France. Over his extensive career, he has directed nearly 50 productions in France, Romania, Korea, The Philippines and beyond, with numerous exhibitions of his work and designs in galleries in Avignon, France to Belgium. Having been to Avignon myself, I can attest to the strength and vibrancy of his theatre company in the festival town of Avignon. Making theatre productions in the home of one of the world’s greatest theatre festivals is no small undertaking. Having seen his rehearsals over the past three weeks, I understood why he was named Chevalier in the National Order of the Merit (08) and Chevalier in the Order of Arts and the Letters (03). Alain Timar is a treasure to the French cultural heritage, and a treasure which we have the opportunity to share with you through the work of the Level 3 BA (Hons) Actors’ production of EXIT THE KING.", Edith Podesta, head of Acting at Lasalle College of the Arts, commented.
Alain Timar will meet with students of the French School in Singapore on 30 January.
