European Climate Diplomacy Day

On 17 June, the European Union and its member states celebrated European Climate Diplomacy Day with events dedicated to the fight against climate change globally. In Singapore, the French Embassy, in partnership with the European Union Delegation in Singapore and the British, German, Belgium and Romanian Embassies, organized two events which saw more than 200 participants present : a youth debate titled « EU Climate Diplomacy Day – Youth Debate » held at the new ESSEC campus and an event for the business community titled « Building a low carbon economy : the role of business » held at the National Library.

Among those present at the two events were Mr. Philippe Zeller, Ambassador-at-large in charge of Asia, Climate Change team, and Mr. Henri Waisman, expert at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI). Ambassador Kwok Fook Seng, Chief Negociator for Singapour on climate change, was moreover the guest of honour for the event at the National Library and reaffirmed Singapore’s support on this occasion for the Paris Climate Conference 2015 and his desire for the adoption of a universal and legally binding agreement.
