Fight against climate imbalance : Laurent Fabius at the 20th climate conference
Laurent Fabius, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development, participated in the UN climate change conference in Lima from 9 December.
He indicated 3 words which symbolise France’s action : urgency, ambition and hope.
Urgency, firstly, because the scientific analyses and standard observation indicate that there is an increasingly serious climate imbalance due to greenhouse gases. Sea levels rise, heat increases and extreme climate phenomena increase.
Ambition, secondly. The aim of the Lima conference is to start to identify the points of consensus and to define a common method for the national contributions that each country has to present in the first quarter of 2015.
Finally, hope, especially because Europe, the United States and China have already undertaken engagements. The Lima conference constitutes a major step to come to a universal agreement to fight against the climate imbalance in Paris in December 2015 (COP21). Laurent Fabius and the French delegation will officially launch preparations in Lima on 12 December. France rallies so that "Paris Climat 2015", which will be the largest diplomatic conference ever organised in France, will be a success.
