French Gala Dinner celebrating Singapore’s 50th Birthday
Held at the Marina Bay Sands Grand Ballroom on 7 March 2015, a French Gala Dinner, "Singapour je t’aime", organized by the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, the French External Trade Advisers, the Alliance Française and Encore ! festival, was held in honour of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee. Almost 1000 guests from the Singaporean and French communities and organisations were present together with guest of honour, Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, to celebrate the friendly ties between France and Singapore and to send best wishes to the nation for its 50th birthday. Recorded messages of congratulations by President François Hollande and Foreign Affairs Minister Laurent Fabius were broadcasted during the gala.
Renowned cabaret troupe, Moulin Rouge, performed for the first time in Singapore at the event. Fifteen of the 80 dancers, decked in exquisite feathers, rhinestones and sequins presented their show, titled "A Taste of Moulin Rouge", which projected the facade and red windmill of the famous cabaret, that opened in Paris in the 1880s. Hossan Leong, the most French "Singapore Boy" was the Master of Ceremony.
