INSITU Fort Canning Hill : Kangding ray
INSITU presents poetic places in Asia through the eyes of contemporary artists. An ongoing artists’ travelogue, INSITU’s first edition looked at Tenganan, Bali. INSITU edition two is of palimpsest Fort Canning Hill, Singapore.
Beautiful/ Banal is proud to collaborate with internationally-acclaimed Kangding ray, presenting the world debut of this Berlin-based French artist’s avant electronica of the historic hill. It will be a night of cutting-edge aural x visual performance, with Kangding ray integrating leading Japanese contemporary art photographer Taisuke Koyama’s high-speed slideshow and Singapore-based independent curator June Yap’s stream of words. Boedi Widjaja will draw on stage, with the process’ sounds fed live to Kangding ray to be used real-time in his concert.
Performed in association with Singapore Arts Festival, supported by hotel Wanderlust, Canon, NLB and NParks.

Critics love Kangding ray’s music :
Kangding ray’s Pruitt Igoe named top 15 electronica albums in 2010
... the music radiates a sense of refined, harnessed, and sculpted artifice in sound
Kangding ray augments his sound to Raster noton’s current avant-techno agenda ... of intense, considered minimalism, striving to eke the optimised impact from every sound and exchewing the need for any unnecessarily conventional melody or harmony... this is pushing our buttons, hard. So good.
