Michel Sapin, French Finance Minister, visits Singapore
In the first leg of his Asian visit which includes Indonesia and Japan, tour French Finance Minister Michel Sapin met the French community at the French Residence on January 15. Michel Sapin is the first minister of his government to leave the French territory since the attacks which hit France last week. He shared with the French community in Singapore the emotions following these murderous attacks. He reiterated the importance of the fight for the freedom of speech and against all forms of racism and highlighted his pride of the unity among the French people following these events. He also expressed his appreciation to the international community for the solidarity shown to France.
During this official visit to Singapore, the French Finance Minister signed a bilateral tax agreement, which will improve information sharing between France and Singapore in order to fight against tax fraud and tax optimization. It will also allow avoiding issues related to double taxations.
The Minister was received by the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and met his counterpart Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance.
