As 2015 comes to a close, it is the perfect time to look back at this special year which marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Singapore.
We have celebrated this unique occasion with the State visit of President Tony Tan to France in May, but also with Voilah !, the French cultural festival in Singapore, and the Singapore in France festival in spring which both drew hundreds of thousands of people eager to discover French and Singaporean cultures.
The past year has also brought testing times with the vicious terrorist attacks which struck France both in January and in November, but our country is resilient and has the strength to face up to the challenge of violent extremism and terrorism, along with our many partners in Europe but also in Asia, including Singapore.
The last few days have brought immense optimism with the historic Paris climate agreement which was agreed on December 12, and which ushers in a new era for the global fight against climate change and for the necessary transition to a low-carbon economy.
Along with the rest of the French Embassy team in Singapore, I would like to wish you happiness and success for 2016.

“I hear no objection in the room, I declare the Paris climate agreement adopted.” It was with these words, on Saturday, 12 December, that Laurent Fabius closed the fierce negotiations that had been underway for two weeks in Le Bourget. Following the tragic terrorist attacks which struck France on November 13, a memorial ceremony was held at the Embassy on Monday 16 November at 7PM, concurrently with the ceremonies held in France at the same time, to pay homage to the victims.
A virtual condolence book was opened for those who wished to express their support to the victims. You can read it here :
A gathering of 50 religious organisations representing all 10 faiths present in Singapore, in the presence of HE Benjamin Dubertret, French Ambassador to Singapore, was held on November 29 to honor the memory of the victims of all recent terrorist attacks, especially those in Paris, and affirm their rejection of radicalism and of violence in the name of religion.
The French group CMA - CGM (Compagnie Maritime d’Affrètement - Compagnie Générale Maritime), the third largest shipping company in the world, announced through its vice-president Rodolphe Saadé the acquisition for $ 3.8 billion of the transport company Nepture Orient Lines (NOL), leader in Singapore and in the region.
AccorHotels acquired Fairmont Raffles Hotels International Holdings, meaning it now owns the renowned Raffles Hotel as well as the Singapore Fairmont and the Swissôtel The Stamford. [read more...]

Professor Alain H. Fuchs, President of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), a government-funded research organisation administered by the French Ministry of Research, was in Singapore from 4 to 6 November 2015.
