Seminar on “Piracy in the Straits: Challenges and Perspectives” by Dr Eric Frécon & Commander François Ceccaldi
The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and the Embassy of France in Singapore jointly organized a seminar on "Piracy in the Straits: Challenges and Perspectives", which took place on 13 October 2015 at 5.30pm at the Embassy of France.
Speakers Dr Eric Frécon, Visiting Fellow of the Maritime Security Programme at RSIS and Assistant Professor of the French Naval Academy as well as Commander François Ceccaldi, French Liaison Officer of the Information Fusion Centre and Regional HADR Coordination Centre discussed key issues regarding piracy in the Straits of Malacca and shared their perspectives based on their work in Singapore, Indonesia and France, in regional agencies and on the field.
After making an assesssment of piracy in the region, Dr Eric Frécon and Commander François Ceccaldi shared with their audience, comprising researchers, diplomats, military, students and representatives of private companies, their views as to the development of the situation in coming years. The discussion was moderated by Ms Jane Chan, Research Fellow and Coordinator of Maritime Security Programme, Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies at RSIS.
