An immediate project arising from the MOU is the co-organisation and co-curation of Video. An Art, a History 1965-2010. A Selection from the Centre Pompidou and Singapore Art Museum Collections. The exhibition will be held from 27 May to 18 September 2011 at SAM, and presents the Centre Pompidou’s new media travelling exhibition in a new, expanded format that includes an added Southeast Asian touch. SAM’s collection of video works and installations by Southeast Asian artists such as Lee Wen, Choy Ka Fai, Dinh Q Le, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba and Richard Streitmatter-Tran will be presented alongside the Centre Pompidou’s collection of internationally renowned artists such as Nam June Paik, Bill Viola, Bruce Neuman, Tony Oursler, Jean-Luc Godard and Pierre Huygue to name a few. The SAM collection forms “an integral part of the history of video art” said Mr Tan Boon Hui and completes the presentation. According to Mr Alain Seban, a remarkable aspect of this joint collaboration is that not only “the museums work together but artists also come together…[and] lead to more dialogue between the cultures and promote future contemporary projects”.

This premiere partnership builds upon the 10-year government-to-government agreement signed in January 2009 between Singapore and France. The MOU will also encourage further collaborations between SAM and the Centre Pompidou, including other exhibition projects and contemporary art programming for children.
