Tableaux Tables: France’s and Singapore’s passion for Design, Food and Life!
Table arts, design and traditional savoir-faire
Institut français Singapour and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) are proud to present Tableaux Tables, an Institut français international touring exhibition curated by Elisabeth Couturier and coming to Singapore after Madrid, Amsterdam and Dubaï. With the support of Alliance Française in Singapore, the exhibition is a unique showcase of 10 tablescapes that combine the vision of 38 French designers, including Philippe Starck, Henri d’Origny, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Ora-Ïto and Boo Louis, translated into quality products from 23 manufacturers of tableware, such as Baccarat, Christofle, Dehoulières, Ercuis and Raynaud. Tableaux Tables is given a local touch in Singapore as four groups of home-grown designers from NAFA (Melvin Ong, Tijang Supertini Yuwono, Mohammad Fadzli B Jamil, Joey Tay) create four different tables to represent the milieu of the hosting country.
Cutlery, crockery, crystal and glassware are interpreted with elegance and refinement. Tableaux Tables give us the opportunity to reflect upon the rich French and Southeast Asian heritages of design and dining cultures.
Olivier Caron, Ambassador of France to Singapore adds, “Tableaux Tables reminds us that tableware design, an old tradition in France and in Asia, is another way to make a meal a true feast for both our taste buds and our eyes. It may enliven guests’ mood and facilitate the conviviality of a unique moment.”
