"The Illusionist" brings his magic to Singapore
"The Illusionist" tells the story of two paths that meet. The first is about an old music-hall artist, who is forced to endlessly travel further, from towns to villages, to perform his magic shows in secretive places. The second is about a young naive girl, Alice, who still has the capacity to be marvelled like a child. She sometimes acts like an adult without realising that the day where she will have to leave her adolescence years is approaching soon.
A script for "The Illusionist" was originally written by the French comedy genius and cinema legend Jacques Tati as a love letter from a father to his daughter, but it was never produced. Sylvain Chomet, the Oscar-nominated and critically acclaimed creator of the film "The triplets of Belleville" adapted the script and brought it to life in his distinctive hand-drawn animated style.
